May 2023 - Ongoing

Project Goal

Market Match began as a first step into semi-automated results for REGIS Online users.

The goal of this project was to build a tool with a new data source - demographic dimensions - for a data-driven user type to present to clients.

Background

Sites USA is a small software company of 25 in Chandler, AZ offering GIS and demographic software to commercial real estate professionals. The software, REGIS online, has a total of 10 tools, and even more features all in one place.

As the only UX designer and researcher, I completed the following for Market Match:

  • Conducted research with 5 active users, determining market interest, usability, and user journey fit.

  • Analyzed data with demographics provider, alongside Development and Marketing leads to determine user and product fit.

  • Designed low and high-fidelity wireframes; Presented several design concepts and iterations to Development and demographics provider.

  • Assisted with copy-writing for marketing and provided research findings to sales teams for demos.

Research

After conducting research with over 20 users, I was able to determine two different user types for REGIS Online. For Market Match, the user type we considered the most was our Data-Delivery Drew persona.

This user type typically has short deadlines, lots of clients to please, and is very knowledgeable about their industry and the commercial real estate in their given market. This user type needs REGIS Online to compile lots of different types of data for their clients.

Based on internal research, we knew the concept of the tool was a bit complex to explain.

I began researching similar methods of delivering complex data to users, and found that Credit Karma does a great job showing how many small numbers (payment history, usage, etc.) can impact your credit score.

Similarly, demographic dimensions are small demographics (educational attainment, households, etc.) that impact an area's number - the Market Match Number!

For low-fidelity wireframes, the base of REGIS Online is used to provide context and ensure style consistency.

Because the tool is mostly through small dialogues, running a Market Match analysis can be achieved in three steps! This allows users to quickly access the data they need to make big commercial real estate decisions easily.

Once the early wireframes were presented to the data provider and the Development team, I began designing the final look of the dialogues and adjusting the language to fit the user type better.

For step 1, users must upload and rank their sites by performance. Users typically choose Revenue for this step.

On Step 2, users then set their brand's ideal demographic variables. By setting these weights, a brand can fine tune exactly the demographic they prefer by household and business focus, allowing a more complete search.

Once a user has run the Market Match tool, they will get a shading on their map according to which areas in their market fit their previous settings best. In this example, the selected area fits 90% of their chosen settings!

If a user chooses, they can dive further into an area and see specifically which variables are affecting their Market Match number. In this example, the residential is perfectly matched, but only some of the business is matched.

Market Match was released in March 2023 in the Plus packages of REGIS Online.

REGIS Online has doubled it's Plus subscribers since releasing Market Match, with more improvements and features quickly on the way for interested users!
